The #PristineParish Methodology provides a turn-key system by which a #PristineParish Organiser (PPO) can enrol, manage, and coordinate volunteers (Pikkers) to de-litter all public thoroughfares within a defined Parish boundary at least twice per week. Operating on a hub-and-spoke model, the PPO provides consistent professional management — including volunteer rotas, walk mapping, online reporting galleries, and annual get-togethers — in place of ad hoc resident or council-led litter picks. Where implemented, the program reduces litter on thoroughfares by approximately 98% compared to parishes that rely on biannual litter picks.
The methodology is practice-based: credits are earned through the act of Pikking — de-littering a Walk as part of a #PristineParish Program — rather than through an outcome measurement. Credits are denominated in International Miles of Qualifying Thoroughfare per year, and are issued when a Parish achieves a Standard of Performance of 70% or more of scheduled Piks within the Crediting Term. Credits are designed to be purchased by the packaging producers, hospitality businesses, and public bodies that benefit most from litter-free surroundings, making programs financially self-sustaining and scalable to any parish, town, or neighbourhood worldwide.
