Broader than Ecocredits: Regen Builder Lab

A transition to expand the scope and vision to a broader set of applications and programs developed on the Regen Stack

TLDR: We are changing the name of Ecocredit Builder Lab (EBL) to Regen Builder Lab (RBL), because we think it better reflects the range of relevant applications possible with Regen Network. RBL maintains its focus on technical implementation and building for both newbies and experts. We’ve compiled all our previous sessions on our YouTube Channel for reference. Join the RBL Luma for future sessions, including this Thursday!

The EcoCredit Builder Lab (EBL) journey so far has been one of co-learning, listening and collaboratively building a safe space for ALL inquisitions around ecological regeneration. The commitment to advancing ecocredit methodologies and tools, while engaging a broad spectrum of stakeholders, has set the stage for future growth in this critical field. What started as a specialized platform for ecocredit development has transformed into dynamic, open office hours where regenerative innovation is codeveloped by the kindred.

It was our goal to create a forum of practice, where stakeholders with a range of familiarity could overcome common feelings of imposter syndrome and engage in the emerging field of local-first regenerative economics. Over more than a dozen sessions we held space where builders can roll up their sleeves and dive into the Regen stack and complex topics, supporting both newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. You don’t need an Environmental Science degree, a polished methodology, or a comprehensive list of data points to join these monthly sessions, (although those are of course, welcome!). All you need is interest and the desire to form aligned community through building.

As the regenerative tech space emerges and takes shape, we strongly believe that a multi-modal approach — integrating crediting, impact accounting, ecological claims contracting, regenerative institution design, and grassroots capacity building — is key to making a regenerative economic paradigm ultimately be in service to life.

Averaging ~30 attendants per call, our monthly sessions served as a vibrant melting pot of ideas and expertise, where participants like Asdrubal from Mexico (agroforestry), Zach from Montana (water retention), and Evan from Iowa (soil health) shared their dedicated work in ecosystem restoration. Our format focused on a balance of presentation and breakout sessions where participants took deep dives with builders like GVK Society and Kulshan Carbon Trust working on their methodologies.

With representatives, Austin Wade Smith, Regen Foundation ED, and Becca Harman, Associate Director of User Success of Regen Network, EBL has fostered a human-led environment where innovation meets implementation and where Regen infrastructure gets field-tested. The Lab has gone beyond traditional ecocredits to explore the countless intersections of blockchain technology, community participation, and sustainable finance. In parallel, the team at RND has appreciated how these labs offer an opportunity to better understand the community’s needs through direct input from builders.

Some of the insightful builder sessions we have had so far include:

While it’s impossible to mention every remarkable regenerative project, speaker, and engaged participant, this list illustrates how blockchain technology is amplifying the potential of regenerative economics.

One such ecological asset in this fairly new economy is the Biocultural Jaguar Credit, an innovative project combining ecological protection with socio-cultural impacts. Created with Amazon indigenous communities, this initiative protects both keystone species and indigenous life plans that have sustained these communities for generations. It exemplifies integrative, nature-based solutions where environmental protection, social equity, and sustainable finance converge.

Bridging Global Challenges with Local Solutions

A striking feature of the EBL calls was its ability to bridge geographies, cultures, and disciplines. Discussions explored eco-credits, REGEN tokens, soil regeneration funding, and collaboration opportunities within the Regen Network ecosystem.

Participants’ initiatives demonstrated the power of global collaboration and bioregional empowerment. These projects prove that there is no lack of ideas or potential, but lack in resourcing, access to technical expertise and funding. Through this work, the Regen stack emerged as not just a technology system but as a catalyst for systemic change, building public goods infrastructure for regenerators around the globe.

Blockchain and the Future of Eco-Credits

Throughout the year + of EBL, we saw clearly the powerful demonstration of blockchain’s ability to enhance transparency, trust, and efficiency in eco-credit verification. The Regen Ledger has proved itself as a tool for traceable, accountable, and actionable credit and asset management to better channel resources and funding to projects. Yet we saw how technology’s impact extends beyond transactions — it can articulate the story and impact of regenerative projects and the people making them happen.

Looking forward

As we celebrate these achievements, we’re excited to announce our evolution into the Regen Builder Lab. This transition represents more than a name change — it’s a strategic expansion of our scope and vision, exploring a broader set of applications and programs developed on the Regen Stack. RBL will continue to be a technical builder session in the ecosystem, offering a unique space for regenerative project implementation and collective learning.

We feel it’s a better service to the community to develop technical sessions on applications beyond solely the scope of crediting. That means a wider range of applications within the Regen stack, from impact accounting, certification systems, insetting, grant reporting and more. We will absolutely continue to run sessions on ecocredits, but will cover other programs relevant to regenerative economics as well.

The Labs’ big tent approach remains through its unique fusion of technology, finance, and on-the-ground regeneration, creating a blueprint for scalable climate solutions.

Going forward, each session will now include dedicated ‘spotlighting’ opportunities for participants to showcase their initiatives, project pages and share data posts, exploring platform usage and community-driven practices. Create your project page and showcase it at a session. We continue our commitment to collective learning through expert-led sessions and breakouts, while exploring new frontiers in regenerative development.

We’ve made all the insights and conversations from past sessions available on our YouTube channel. Whether you missed a session or want to delve deeper into specific discussions, there is now a public repository online for all the sessions. Join us on this promising journey and become part of our growing network of change-makers creating a sustainable, equitable future for all. We are here to build and that takes time and people working together. Let’s make it happen! We’ll see you at RBL.
